THE LAW ON HUMAN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA states that all males and females at the marital age have the right becoming oocyte or sperm donors for reproductive reasons.
Donor’s semen is used for artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization. Sperm donation can only be completed though sperm banks. Donor can donate 5 times a month. Donated frozen and defrosted sperm can be used up to 6 six months with prior examination proving the absence of syphilis and hepatitis.
Requirements for Donors
- must be18-35 years of age
- the existence of own child is preferable
The following testing is completed on all donors:
- physical examination for evidence of sexually transmitted disease
- psychological and genetic examination
- initial lab testing including:
- Hepatitis B and C
- TB test
- AIDS
The donor must present psycho-neurological and narcological testing evaluations from a health center and proof of residency.
- the volume of a sample (ejaculate) must be >1.0 mL
- the volume of sperm in 1mL must be >80mL
- hyperactive (A+B) types must be 60%
- normal-morphological type of sperm must be >60%
- sperm tolerance
The donor has to be examined by a psychologist and genetic doctor once. Donor’s full chart of medical examinations is given at the medical clinic.
